Red Alert! Stop new coal plants
The NSW Government is proposing to build two new coal power stations, and majorly expand an existing plant.

Coal fired power stations are Australia's single biggest source of greenhouse pollution – fueling dangerous climate change. The two proposed new coal fired power stations in NSW (one at Bayswater in the Hunter Valley and one at Mt Piper near Lithgow), together with a major expansion of the existing Munmorah plant at Lake Macquarie, would increase NSW annual greenhouse pollution by 24%. That would have a real impact on climate change, which is already driving species to extinction, and killing an estimated 300,000 people per year.
Other impacts of the proposed new power stations include:
Expansion of existing coal mines in NSW.
Stifled investment in sustainable, renewable technologies and industry, locking NSW into decades of rising greenhouse pollution.
Exacerbated environmental and human health issues in surrounding communities due to increased air and water pollution.
Ensuring the Hunter Valley and Lithgow regions remain firmly dependent on the destructive coal industry.
The Government of NSW is hooked on coal. Tell them it's time to wake up to the climate crisis and scrap these outrageous proposals. You can make a submission against the Munmorah expansion using the guide below. Submissions close 20th November. The public submission period on the two new coal plants is finished, for now. But the campaign is just heating up....
