Awaba Mine Protest Rally

Description:

Centennial coal is proposing an open cut coal mine for the small
community of Awaba, near Toronto. The experience of locals in the Upper
Hunter is testament to the dramatic impact open cut mining has upon
creeks, native vegetation, and threatened species habitat, air quality
and noise pollution. Come and show support for the locals who are
opposed to this mine and vioce your opposition to the continued
expansion of coal mining in the Hunter Valley.

Members of affected coal mining communities are meeting at the Mineral Resources Office to highlight the conflict of interest in the Ministers portfolios:

Ian McDonald is Minister for Mining, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries plus Natural Resources ie Water and Vegetation Management.
