Newcastle coal export expansion plans
Newcastle is already the world's biggest exporter of coal, at about 80 million tonnes per year. As such, we are a major source of global greenhouse pollution, fueling global climate change. If the most catastrophic impacts of climate change are to be avoided, Newcastle coal exports are going to have to be addressed, and fast.
Yet, the NSW Government has just given the go-ahead to more than double Newcastle coal exports:
Proposed new coal loaders:
- expansion of the existing PWCS coal terminal at Kooragang
- contruction of a new Coal Export Terminal next door.
Proposed new coal mining:
