Rising Tide Newcastle placed Peabody Energy under temporary new management, deciding to cancel Peabody's entry into the Hunter Valley coal chain.

16th August 2006 - Newcastle Harbour declared Climate Disaster Zone. A road block was set up on the way into the Carrington coal loader, to alert drivers of the dangers of coal exports.

The coal companies and their mates intent on turning the Gunnedah Basin from amazing bushland and fertile plains into wall-to-wall coal mines, had a conference in Gunnedah to discuss these plans. They called their conference "The New Coal Frontier".
The local farming community held a protest outside the conference, and were joined by people from other coalmining regions of NSW, and a handful of climate change activists from Newcastle.

24th November 2006 - The Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile hides from the release of the final report of the Cole Inquiry, by coming to Newcastle to official open the Sandgate Rail Flyover. Rising Tide crashed the party, calling for, among other things, a Coal Inquiry.
