YOUTH RISING

YOUTH RISING

We are young people, inspired by generations before us, and called by the current state of our climate to rise to action. We are a diverse movement made up of ordinary young people, with unique dreams and aspirations, who are prepared to take whatever peaceful actions that are within our power to defend the climate. We stand alongside Rising Tide, demanding Australia honours our commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement.

OUR STORY

Youth Rising is a movement built upon the success of previous youth movements, nurtured by the support of older community members, and grown with the passion of young people who dream of colourful and just futures. Youth Rising first began as Muloobinba/Newcastle School Strike for Climate in 2018, known for campaigning and organising within schools in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie region, with the goals of showcasing young people’s anger about the Australian Government’s lack of action regarding the climate crisis. In 2023, the movement was reinvigorated by an influx of new members with a vision for rapid, transformative change. After witnessing, and participating in Rising Tide’s 2023 30 hour blockade of the Newcastle Harbour, we were inspired by Rising Tide’s vision and values and decided to strengthen our relationship with the movement. In June of 2024 we officially became known as Youth Rising, a community of young people joined together in non-violent resistance against the biggest threat to our collective futures; the climate crisis.
