At the end of the hottest year in history in 2023, a Rising Tide of everyday people shut down the Newcastle Coal Export Facility, the world’s largest coal port, for 32 hours.
Watch Rising Tide’s very first short film, and meet some of the 100+ Canberrans who attended the 2023 People’s Blockade of the world’s largest coal port in Newcastle. Join with like-minded local community members to learn how you can get involved in this diverse movement for climate defence.

This event will be held on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country, and we pay our respects to Indigenous people across Australia, whose struggle for justice remains integrally tied to land rights and environmental protection.
